Baby directed by Bill Doscher, who is new to the Wellesley Players but not to the show itself, having previously directed it in the eighties is joined by Jason Whiting, Music Director whose previous credits include Godspell, bare: A Pop Opera, The Last Five Years, I Love You Because, and Into The Woods, are excited about opening next weekend. The show will run November 2 4, and 9 11 at the Arsenal Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre. Friday and Saturday shows will be evening shows at 8pm, with Sunday matinees beginning at 2pm. Tickets are $22 for adults, and $20 for seniors and students.
The cast includes veteran Wellesley Players as well as well-known community theater actors new to the group. The principles include Sarah Belliveau of Peabody as Lizzie, Jermaine Golden of Brookline as Danny, Zack Hardy of Watertown as Nick, Megan Kip of Boston as Pam, Dan Moore of Boston as Alan, and Darlene Howland of Wellesley as Arlene.
Members of the ensemble include Jon Baril of Framingham (also appearing as the Doctor), Rachel Baril of Framingham, Annie Burkus of Weston, Carolyn Cafarelli of Boston, Anne Ludlow of Chelmsford, Susan Rubin of Arlington, Jen Ryan of Brighton, and Tony DeMarco (also apprearing as Dean Webber) of Wellesley.
Three couples, each newly expecting a child, have different but familiar reactions. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.
