1. Santa's Visits Continue. The Annual Santa's Visit concludes tonight. Check out the schedule and get the camera ready.
2. Music and More! Sing along with Jeannie Mack. Children ages 6 months to 4 years are invited to the Weston Library event featuring guitar music and songs.
3. Meetings Today. The Council on Aging meets today at 8:30 a.m. Click the link for an agenda.
4. Carolers Nearby. The Figgy Pudding Carolers will be at Sudbury's Mill Village Shopping Center today to entertain passersby with holiday favorites. The carolers will be around from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.
5. Even Elvis Gets Drafted. On this date in 1957, Elvis Presley received his draft notice from the U.S. Army. He ultimately served for 18 months in Company D, 32nd Tank Battalion, 3rd Armor Corps in Friedberg, German, according to History.com.

Ah, Elvis gets drafted! Now there's a Christmas memory. The King goes off to serve his country, and millions of passionate young fans follow his every move. How we loved him, and always will. Elvis lives!

Glad 5 Things could make your Christmas merry, Isabella. The History.com write-up (linked above) was fascinating to read ... apparently the military received thousands upon thousands of letters begging for Elvis to be spared the draft. Sounds like it was just a time that people needed something to hold on to.

Hi Brooklyn, it was really all about Elvis, "just a hunk of burnin' love" who was so good to everyone around him, loved his mother and his country, was beautiful inside and out and of course was the undisputed King of Rock 'n Roll.
Somehow I think the country was much happier in 1957 and people didn't need something to hold on to as much as we do now. The economy was good, the factories were humming and you could get a job easily. And the music, from Motown to Elvis and beyond, was just fantastic and still is!
