Columbus Day: What's open and closed
Monday, Oct. 11, is Columbus Day, and certain services are closed.

In an interview published by ABC on March 8, 2009, Spanish historian Alfonso Ensenat de Villalonga said that Columbus, whose origins continue to fuel research, was actually called "Pedro Scotto." Most experts say that the discoverer of the Americas (1492) was the son of a Genoese weaver while Villalonga affirms he was the son of traders.

Today, Monday, Oct. 11 is Columbus Day, a federal holiday since 1934. While many businesses are likely to remain open, some may have reduced or Sunday hours.
But most municipal offices, including those on the town, state and federal level are closed, including:
- Weston Town Hall
- All schools and after-school activities
- School administration offices
- Transfer station (closed Mondays)
- Weston Public Library
