Why Go: Recommended for children ages 6 to 12, the performances are staged by the Boston Lyric Opera and feature colorful sets, costumes, and lights.

Why Go: A good way to beat the winter blahs is by being active and having fun inside. Stop by the Winter Festival for storytime, arts and crafts, rock wall climbing and other fitness activities.

4. WHOLE PLANET AWARENESS DAY & $1 BOOK SALE
Where/When: Whole Foods Market, 317 Boston Post Road, Wayland, Saturday, Feb. 26
Why Go: Support the Whole Planet Foundation, which supports microfinance projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and add a "new" book to your collection.
Pricing: Price of the books you buy.
Where/When: Weston Public Library, Sunday, Feb. 27, 3 p.m.
Why Go: Pianist I-Hsuan Cheng will perform as part of the Friends of Weston Library 2011 Concert Series. She will play works by Mozart, Busoni, Poulenc, and Debussy.
