Girls Cross Country Continue Undefeated Streak

The Weston girls cross country team continued its winning streak over Lincoln-Sudbury and Wayland last week in a dual meet.

Weston cross country took on Lincoln-Sudbury and Wayland in their final dual meet of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 12. 

At the time of the meet, Weston girls were undefeated and Lincoln-Sudbury girls had a 56-meet unbeaten streak.

The first half of the 5k cross country race went as expected, with Olivia Brackett and Charlotte Walmsley from Weston pushing the pace and Marika Crowe (Massachusetts All-State Mile Champion from L-S) drafting, hoping to use her superior kick near the finish.

At this point in the race, Weston coach John Monz instructed Brackett and Walmsley to up the tempo and the two broke away, with Brackett first in 18:52 and Walmsley second in 18:59.

Abigail Pohl of Weston (19:24) ran a tremendous third mile, passing Crowe and giving Weston an unassailable lead with 1-2-3 positions. Marika Crowe of L-S (19:46) finished fourth,  followed shortly by Phoebe Morss (19:50) from Wayland.

The rest of the Weston team ran very strongly all recording personal records: Zoe Snow 9th (20:22), Edom Wessenyeleh 12th (20:37), Read Allen 14th (21:14), giving Weston the win 25-31 over Lincoln-Sudbury and an undefeated DCL dual meet season.

The varsity boys race was won by Matt Herzig of Weston, leading from start to finish (16:53). David Freeman ran a personal record (17:03) for fourth but a large pack of Lincoln Sudbury runners after that ensured the victory in the boys race for Lincoln-Sudbury.
