Patch Picks: Summer Camps in Weston
Hard to believe it, but summer will soon be here. We've got some suggestions for summer camps in the area.
Summer Arts focuses on artistic creativity, from art to dance to drama, music, video and fashion design. The camp is designed for kids ages 6 to 15. Six- and seven-year-olds can be part of Art Squad and older children do an individualized program. Kids can also play sports and take swim lessons at the camp, which is held on the campus of the Cambridge School of Weston. The camp runs for five weeks, from June 27 to July 29.
The Rivers School Conservatory offers four summer programs for young musicians: Summer Jazz, Summer Music, Musical Mornings and Summer Youth Orchestras. Most of the programs are appropriate for school-age children, except Musical Mornings, which is meant for children ages 4-6.
Meadowbrook School in Weston offers a day camp for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Campers participate in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, music, swimming, canoeing, sports and exploring nature.
4. Drumlin Farm Camp in Lincoln
Run by Mass Audobon, campers explore field, forest and pond to find individual growth and to to learn about nature. The foundational concepts of the camp are community, interdependence and stewardship, and a multitude of related programs are offered for students ages 4 to those entering tenth grade.
5. YMCA Day Camp in Waltham
The YMCA Summer Camp runs from June 27 to Aug. 26, for kids ages 3 to eighth grade. Each week has a different theme and campers are divided into groups based on age. The camp uses the pool at the Waltham Y for swimming lessons and older kids get a daily trip to activities like paintball and trapeze school. Sign up for one week or for all 9 weeks.
