Setti Warren Visits Weston

The Newton mayor, who is running for the Democratic nomination for Senate in 2012, made a campaign stop at a Weston home Sunday night.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren visited Weston Sunday night, speaking to members of the Weston Town Democratic Committee to explain why he is the best choice to go up against Sen. Scott Brown (R) in 2012.

"The junior senator from this state has made the wrong decisions, repeatedly," he said.

Warren criticized what he categorized as Brown's failure to communicate effectively with constituents, pointing out that as mayor of Newton, he has held 24 town hall meetings.

"Scott Brown hasn't held one," he said.

He also said that Brown simply doesn't represent the more progressive, liberal voters that dominate Massachusetts politics, saying that Brown votes with the national Republican party 90 percent of the time.

The rest of the time, Warren said, "I'm not sure where he stands at all."

Weston resident Isabella Jancourtz came to the meeting and said she was excited to see people come out to see Warren speak.

"It's going to be a tough job to unseat Scott Brown," she said.

During a Q&A session with Warren, Jancourtz had asked questions about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and said she liked Warren's answers, which focused on diplomacy and bringing troops back to the United States.

"I have been waiting for a long time to see some sense in our foreign policy," she said.

The meeting was held at the home of Democratic committee member John Hennessey.
