Weekend Happenings: A Carnival, Piano and Football

Sunday might be all about football, but there's plenty to do before then.

 

Winter Carnival

When/Where: Saturday from noon-4 p.m. at Nara Park, 25 Ledgerock Way, Acton.

Why Go: Various winter sports, live music, good food and outdoor fun abound at this annual event.

Price: Free

When/Where: Throughout the month of February at the Wayland Public Library, 5 Concord Rd, Wayland.

Why Go: You heard it from the groundhog: six more weeks of winter are coming. This is an indoor activity that will bring a bit of color and warmth and art to your life.

Price: Free

Piano Concert

When/Where: Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Weston Public Library, 87 School St., Weston.

Why Go: Igor Lovchinsky will perform a program of music by Liszt, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. These composers are known for their technically difficult and complex compositions. Even if piano isn't your thing, you'll be amazed to hear and watch someone play the works of these composers.

Price: Free

Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball, Hockey Charity Games

When/Where: Basketball plays Friday at 7 p.m. at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, 390 Lincoln Rd., Sudbury; Hockey plays Saturday at 3 p.m. at Valley Sports Arena, 2320 Main St., Concord.

Why Go: These games, in addition to being quality sports entertainment, serve the greater purpose of raising awareness for cancer research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink or purple and will have the opportunity purchase a $1 card for the Wall of Hope.

Price: Free

Watch Super Bowl XLVI

When/Where: Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. As for where, pick your favorite sports bar or living room sofa parked in front of a television. Or, your computer — NFL.com will be streaming the game live.

Why: Patriots, Giants, biggest football game of the year. Oh, and the commercials ... we can't forget the commercials.

Price: That all depends on your viewing location of choice. Could be as much as dinner at a sports bar or as little as a bag of chips to contribute to the snack table at your friend's Super Bowl party.
