Weston Dems Endorse Markey for Senate
The Weston Democratic Town Committee has named its choice for the the senator to replace John Kerry, now secretary of state.
On Feb. 10, the Weston Democratic Town Caucus voted "overwhelmingly" to endorse Rep. Ed Markey in his bid for the Senate seat vacated when John Kerry became secretary of state.
"Weston’s Dems feel Ed Markey is uniquely qualified to be our next U.S. Senator," according to a post on the committee's website.
The announcement goes on to praise Markey as a "national leader on energy and the environment" and says that Markey "fought to create new jobs in American clean energy."
Markey is also, according to the announcement, "a national leader on technology policy and consumer protection."
Markey is slated to face Rep. Stephen Lynch in a special election democratic primary on April 30.
The special election to place a new senator in Kerry's now vacant seat will take place on June 25.
