Weston Grad Co-Authors Children's Book on Dogs

Weston High School graduate Katie Bazaz co-authored and published "The ABCs of DOGs" along with Scott Fayner.

When author and journalist Scott Fayner was trying to decide what his next project would be, he looked around him. And saw dogs. Lots of dogs.  That's because at the time, Fayner was working at a dog daycare facility. Talk about drawing inspiration from your daily life. He also saw co-worker Katie Bazaz, a 2007 Weston High School graduate, who Fayner said was a perfect fit for his co-author. "When I got the idea for this project I knew I needed someone with knowledge of dogs, as well as a visual side, to be my co-writer/editor," Fayner said. "Katie was the only person I could think of who would be able to give me what I needed to do this right, and [definitely] the only person who could handle me on a daily basis." Weston High Theater Company Headed to State Finals

The Weston High School Theater Company will perform its original play, "Jigsaw," in the upcoming MA Drama Festival Finals.

The Weston High School Theater Company will cap off a stellar run for its original production "Jigsaw" with a performance next weekend in the Massachusetts Drama Festival Finals in Boston. The play, written and performed by 21 student actors, tells "the story of a family broken apart by crisis and the extraordinary steps that eventually bring it back together," according to the theater company's webpage. On March 9, Weston High School played host to a regional semifinal competition in the festival. Weston's play was selected to advance to the finals and Max Alagna, Grace Harper and Miranda Burrage-Goodwin received Acting Awards; Becky Jesurum received a Technical Award for Excellence in Lighting Design; and Odin Enzmann received a …

Weston High Art Students Win Regional Awards, Compete Nationally

Four students in diverse artistic fields will see their work competing to a national competition.

Four Weston High School art students, competing in diverse categories, won regional Gold Key honors recently. James Eaton and Andre Chang each won in Animation, Gene Miller won a Gold Key in Ceramics, and Molly Phillips won in Photography. The four students' work is currently being judged at a national level and the national Gold Key award winners will be announced on March 15, 2011, according to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards website.

The Oscars: Did Your Favorite Film, Actor Get Nominated for an Academy Award?

Steven Spielberg's film "Lincoln" led The Oscar hopefuls with 17 nominations, but Cambridge's own Ben Affleck was left off the list of hopeful for best director today when the list of nominees was announced. The Huffington Post reports that the media was abuzz when neither Affleck, Tom Hooper ("Les Miserables") nor Katherine Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty") made the list for Best Director.   The trio's films did make the list of movies up for Best Picture, along with a host of others, including Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Ang Lee's "Life of Pi."
