Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

A daily column that asks for your thoughts on issues about Weston, the area and the world at large. Look for it Monday through Friday at 11 a.m. Have a question you want your fellow Westonites to answer? Send them to meghan.kelly@patch.com.
We're all busy these days and for many of us, committing to events in the evening can be difficult with the rush of dinner, bedtimes and homework. We here at Weston Patch have often noticed that audiences for Board of Selectmen meetings and School Committee meetings—barring any significant or controversial issues—are often non-existant. Why is that? If you've never attended a meeting for either one, why? Let us know in the comments.
School has been back in session for just over a week now and we here at Patch wanted to know how it's going so far. Are your kids adjusting OK? Are you? What's been the best thing about going back? What's been the worst? Let us know what you think. How's back-to-school been going for you?
The cooler weather came here to Weston rather drastically, but for some of us, it's a welcome relief from the heat of the summer. And in addition, it signals many people's favorite season—fall. What are you most looking forward to this fall? Is it the cooler weather? Or the fall sports like football and field hockey? Maybe it's Halloween or the opportunity to see the leaves change colors. Whatever it is, let us know—what's your favorite thing about fall?
How—or do you—get involved in Weston? Do you volunteer for the schools or serve on town boards? What keeps you there? Why do you volunteer? Or maybe you don't. Why not? What are the hurdles that prevent you from getting involved? We want to know how and why you get involved. Let us know in the comments.
At the end of August, the Board of Selectmen set a date for a public hearing regarding pay-as-you-throw trash. The hearing will be held at the board's next meeting, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. Here's your chance to let people know what you think before the hearing, or if you're unable to make it. What do you think about this proposal—do you think it will end up cheaper for everyone? Do you think it is the more environmentally-friendly way? Or do you feel like town government has no right to do this? Let us know what you think.
Question of the Day is going to take a break for Labor Day. But don't forget that you can always send your questions to editor Meghan Kelly at meghan.kelly@patch.com. Questions can range from silly to serious—we just want to know what you're thinking about. Have a great Labor Day holiday.
It's the last hurrah of summer—Labor Day Weekend, where we celebrate the American worker. What are you doing for the weekend? Are you going away? Headed to the beach for one last trip? Having a barbecue?  Let us know your plans and how you plan to celebrate the last unofficial weekend of summer.
Tropical Storm Irene packed a wallop in certain Greater Boston communities—at one point, about 75 percent of Framingham had no power, and during parts of Sunday, Monday and into Tuesday, large swaths of Wayland had no power. But things in Weston seemed to be humming along just fine, and it was stark noticing how much had already been cleared away from the streets by Monday afternoon. What did you think of the clean up effort? Do you think the town of Weston could have done a better job, or did they already do a great one? You can also answer the question on our Facebook page.
For our Patch Picks column this Thursday, we're looking to highlight some local businesses that provide great customer service. What are your suggestions? What makes that business so great? Let us know your best customer service stories and we'll feature them in our Patch Picks column. You can also email your answers to meghan.kelly@patch.com.
What did you think of the storm on Sunday? Did you think it was as big of a deal as many people made it out to be, or do you think there was some overhype? Let us know what you think, and how you rode out the storm. You can also answer this on our Facebook page.
School's back next week for kids in Weston. How are you spending the last weekend of the summer? Are you going to the beach (hurricanes be darned), doing some last-minute back-to-school shopping? Are you going to take it easy or do you have an action-packed weekend? Let us know what your plans are. You can also answer the question on our Facebook page.
It's looking more and more like Massachusetts may feel some effects of Hurricane Irene, though it remains to be seen if we're just going to have some heavy rain and winds, or worse. Are you doing anything to prepare? Are you stocking up on supplies and hammering your windows shut, or do you think it will be no big deal? Let us know what you think—are you planning for Hurricane Irene to hit the area? You can also answer the question on our Facebook page.
With the turmoil in Libya and the terrible economy, there are some out there who think now was not a great time for President Barack Obama to go on vacation. What do you think about this? Do you think he should have stayed in Washington, D.C.? Or do you think he deserves a break once in awhile?
The Department of Public Works today released its 2011 construction schedule, with projects varying from road paving to sidewalk reconstruction. The full list is available on the town's website (go ahead and read it—we'll wait). What do you think of this schedule? Will it inconvenience you or are you looking forward to having more roads paved? (The DPW does note it's subject to change at any time due to weather and other out-of-their-control-elements).
The first day back at Weston Schools is just under two weeks for most students. What do you have left to buy? Do you have all your kids' clothes ready? Do they need more pencils and notebooks? Have you been buying all summer or waiting until the last minute? What's left to buy on your back-to-school shopping list?
With August halfway over, some people on Twitter have been discussing what they got up to over the summer, with the hashtag #overthesummer.  There's still a few weeks left where you can take a swim at Memorial Pool, grab an ice cream cone at Dairy Joy, hang out at the library and pick up some new books or simply just enjoy the warm weather while it lasts. What have you done over the summer? What do you still hope to accomplish? What was the best part - or the worst part - of your summer? You can also respond to us on Twitter - we're @WestonMAPatch.
When it's time to take your significant other out for a date, where do you go? Do you take a romantic stroll and picnic through Weston's many trails, or do you head into Boston for a fancy meal in the South End?  Or maybe you head over to Framingham for the movies and dinner, or over to Moody Street in Waltham for some tasty ethnic dining. So tell us—where's the best local place for a date?
With a weather forecast predicting a lot of rain in the area today, here at Weston Patch we were wondering—what do you like to do when it rains? Do you stay inside to watch movies or a take a nap, or do you throw on your wellies and your raincoat to go puddle-stomping?  Maybe you're glad to skip a day of watering the plants, or happy to have the opportunity to catch up on some indoor household stuff. Whatever it is, let us know—what do you like to do on rainy days?
If you missed the Question of the Day this week, it's no problem—we've compiled a handy list of this week's questions. Feel free to answer the questions in the comments here, or at the individual articles themselves. Monday: The Stop Sign At Church Street and Boston Post Road Tuesday: What Does the Credit Rating Review Mean to You? Wednesday: Remembering 9/11 Thursday: Cable TV Friday: Tax-Free Weekend
The Massachusetts Department of Revenue has declared this weekend a tax holiday, waiving the sales tax on items costing $2,500 or less. In the past, such weekends have proved to be busy times for retailers, with many people taking advantage of the holiday to buy big purchases like TVs or home appliances. So we want to know—are you going shopping this weekend? Have you delayed the purchase of anything major in anticipation? Or will you be staying home to avoid the crowds? Let us know in the comments, or answer on Facebook.
