Who Will Run for Kerry's Seat if He's Appointed Secretary of Defense?
Would it be Scott Brown? Congressmen Markey or Capuano? Tell us who you think should run.
The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama is considering appointing Massachusetts U.S. Sen. John Kerry as the Secretary of Defense. There was speculation Kerry would become the next Secretary of State.
Either way Kerry's move to possibly become a member of Obama's cabinet will open up his current seat. Should he be appointed, a special election would be held to finish out Kerry's term, which expires in 2014.
Conversation from the breakfast table this morning to the morning commute has everyone talking - who will run for Kerry's U.S. Senate seat if he's appointed? Could it be Scott Brown? Or maybe Congressmen Ed Markey or Michael Capuano?
Only time will tell, but we know you're talking about it. So tell us, who do you think will run for Kerry's seat if he's appointed? Let us know in the comments section below.

Ed Markey would be my choice. Intelligent, careful, and reliable in the long haul.

Mike Capuano. He and Elizabeth Warren would make a hell of a team in the Senate.

All you liberals are sick. We need someone bipartisan. Scott Brown is clearly the best choise. I'll debate a liberal democrat any day.

Matt, those that live in a bubble and accuse others of what ails themselves are usually considered sick. Those that consider assertions and insults as valid arguments need to examine their values and relationship to reality. And, yeah, Brown lost , remember ?
People have spoken.
Otherwise, I wish they would leave that Senate seat alone.

Matt, you STILL believe that propaganda ? Did you also believe, till the last moment, that Romney and Brown were going to win in a landslide ?
And, btw, I come from former USSR and I remember it and the so-called socialism - you have NOT the vaguest idea what it's all about... I remember Kerry being called a communist too. Very amusing. If you only knew. Labeling those that don't agree with "vulture" version of capitalism does not make socialists, only in the minds of those who lack better arguments and substitute insults for them.

Scott Brown will be Senator once again. He may not have won re-election but let's not forget it was a Presidential election year when the incumbant (Dem.) was running for re-election and all the people who only vote in Presidential elections went to the polls.

Matt, which version of US history ? Where we are the saviors to the world ? Where greed and selfishness is good and where Native American Indians welcomed the Puritans with opened hearts and hands ? Or the one where US invaded, lets say Dominican Republic twice during the last century, where we overthrew democratically elected presidents all over the world and installed corrupt hated dictators, or the history where US boat masquerading as North Vietnamese fired shots at another US ship ? Or where Dole Bananas essentially raped Central America just for profits ? Hate to tell you, but you need to take those rose-colored sunglasses off and smell the reality.

Please, we don't need you lecturing us about US History and we won't lecture you about pre/post-soviet history and Marxist-Leninist teachings. John Kerry being the Secretary of Defense makes as much sense as you promoting constitutional conservatism. Kerry is accused of committing treason when he met with the enemy during the Vietnam War. He lied to Congress. He slandered all Vietnam era veterans when he wrongly accused them of atrocities that never happened. Ironically, he was fed that propaganda from soviet agents working with the anti-war movement. He gleefully passed on these fabrications as his own observations. He lied. He is a braggart and a blowhard. This is a piece of American history that they don’t teach in schools. Why do you think the “Swift Boat” vets went after him so aggressively when he ran for president? They knew what kind of man he was. They wanted no part of him. However, this is just the kind of guy (anti-military, liar, and pretender) that Obama, and you, are fascinated with. If you don't believe me, you can research it on your own.
We get the government we deserve.

I guess we all judge from our own perches, don't we ? Funny how Romneys and Adelsons and Cheneys and Bushes get overlooked while demonizing those that try to protect the public from corporate greed. Can't wait till the swift boaters bring in their own bucket of excrement...

To Valera, The Romneys , Adelsons, Cheneys and Bushes did not go on TV complaining about the high cost of a college education while she and her husband pull down nearly 800K for part time college work. That is why we "demonize" the hypocrite!

And what do you know about Warren's workload ? Funny how popular it is to denigrate higher education and professors. Do any of S. Brown's supporters here realize that Professor is not a dirty word, the way he made it out to be in the debates ?

Your argument is very weak. Harvard University is not your average "college education". It is an elite private institution with $32 billion endowment. With $3.7 billion yearly expenses this university can afford the best teachers and lure them with the best pay. At the same time Harvard offers massive financial aid to students (70% or more, based on your income). So, how exactly do you value Prof. Warren's "part time college work"? Do you have facts/credentials for that?

Poppaone. "Kerry is accused of committing treason when he met with the enemy during the Vietnam War." And........ Are you in the possesion of the evidence, any evidence of the "treason" ? And of course you recall your righteous indignation at the swift boaters when they did the same thing to John McCain when he was running in 2000... How convenient. You do know who is behind those a..-wipes - right - same guy bankrolls them every time, rolling their indignation out when the check comes...

Comrade, you are right. Remove the words "accused of". You asked for evidence. How about the Congressional Record, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. I know you left-wing loonies don't like to deal with facts, only opinions, but here are some examples: Kerry testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in April 1971 and admitted he met with the North Vietnamese government in Paris. That is a violation of 18 U.S.C. Section 953, and has been law since John Adams was president. He gave bogus testimony during the infamous "Winter Soldier Investigations" in January 1971 and many of his "witnesses" turned out to be frauds who never spent one day in Vietnam. More troubling, Kerry was accoused of pressing POW families to denounce their government (see NY Times article, July 23, 1971 page 2). So unless you have facts to dispute his own testimony, I suggest you avoid discussions where you don't know the facts. Believe it or not, comrade, some of us don't forget the people who turned against America and its people. Truth - try it sometime.

Here's my problem with this scenario (to get back to the original question) is that although I like the Capuano's and Markey's, etc. they didn't have the guts to run against Brown this year. That matter's to me. They wait for an open seat? I hate that, they try to be the appointed one. Brown has the guts and I would coinsider voting for, I would also consider a non-politician from the dems or repubs. I think if these people wanted to be a Senator they should have run in the past election...not guts...I hate that.

What I see, "downward spiral" started in 2000, when Bush stole the election in Florida, got his presidency while lost on popular vote. 8 disastrous years followed with logical financial meltdown ending.
I am not trying to embellish democrats here, but any donkey is smarter than Akin, Mourdock or Trump. As long as they are republicans I stand by my words.

Poppaone, don't forget - US attacked North Vietnam. And diplomacy, not war is the better solution. Dissent IS NOT treason. In my book W. (with his "honorable" war service) and Co - Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Wolfowitz are the real traitors responsible for thousands of Americans dying in Iraq. Obviously you are ok with that as well as McCain being swift-boated as well. Do notice that not at any point in time did I refer to you as a capitalist loony or an ignoramus. It's just unfortunate that at least half of US population unconditionally believes the nonsense the big corporations - yes, the ones that own the government no matter who is in power -feeds them. Don't forget - nobody has a monopoly on patriotism, notwithstanding the idiots that buy the "if you disagree with us you must be a commie" mantra.

The whole reason John McCain is acting like someone unhinged is simply so Obama will name Kerry opening up his Senate Seat for Scott Brown again. It's this game they like to play and Susan Rice is the pawn. To think they are so upset over Rice's "talking points" on national TV in the midst of an investigation but they are not a bit concerned over Rep Issa posting "sensitive" material on his website including the names of those who are helping us is ludercious.
