How Did Weston Vote in the Special State Primary?

The final results from Tuesday's special state primary show that most Weston voters agreed with the majority of voters across the state.

Tuesday's special state primary brought 1,547 Weston voters to the polls across the town's four precincts, and the majority the voters who came out put their support behind the men who carried the Democratic and Republican votes across the state. According to the final Weston numbers, Edward J. Markey (D-Malden) garnered 854 Weston votes. Markey's opponent, Stephen F. Lynch, earned just 179 votes across Weston's four precincts. While far fewer voters cast Republican ballots, those who did put their support behind Gabriel Gomez. In Weston, Gomez earned 331 votes. His opponents, Michael J. Sullivan and Daniel B. Winslow, brought in 108 votes and 71 votes, respectively. Markey and Gomez will face off in the special election on June 25. Weston…

Gomez to Face Markey in Senate Election

The former Navy SEAL and the longtime Congressman will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.

A political newcomer will face a long-time Massachusetts politician in the race to be the Bay State's next U.S. senator. The Associated Press has declared Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset and Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey of Malden the winners of their U.S. Senate special primary elections, according to tweets from Fox 25. The call for Gomez came approximately one hour after the polls closed in the statewide primary while a call for Markey came moments later. Gomez defeats his more seasoned opponents, former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan of Abington and state Rep. Dan Winslow of Norfolk. Markey beat fellow U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch of South Boston. Brett Rhyne of Needham ran an …

Voter Turnout Low, But Steady in Weston

A Weston voting warden said he's been pleasantly surprised by the turnout so far.

A slow, but steady stream of voters has passed through the doors of Weston's Westgate Church today to vote in the special state primary. Warden Bill Rousseau said the early mornings and late afternoons are generally the busiest times at the polls, with a line of people typically at the door when polls open at 7 a.m. For the April 30 special state primary, however, Rousseau said only two people were waiting when the doors opened, but he's been pleasantly surprised by the response since then. At about 10:15 a.m., precinct 3 had seen 53 voters and precinct four had seen 92, for a total of 145 voters at the Westgate Church voting location. It isn't an overwhelming number, but it's more than Rousseau expected. "It's encouraging," Rouseeau said…

Letter: Boshart's 'Intelligence, Work Ethic' Are Right for Moderator Role

Jamie Fagan explains why he's supporting Harvey Boshart for Weston Town Moderator.

Letter to the Editor: I am writing to  support Harvey Boshart as Town Moderator. I have lived in Weston for the majority of my life and I have worked with Harvey for over 12 years. When Harvey moved to Weston nine years ago my wife and I strongly encouraged him to get involved with the community as we felt his intelligence, desire and work ethic would be a great resource to the Town. After spending a substantial majority of his time in Weston on various committees, we think it’s fitting that he seeks this position. For those of you who do not know him, you may have seen him present at Town Meetings or other public meetings as a member of Finance Committee where he spent 6 years with his last year as Chairman. Currently, he is a member of …

Well said, Jamie. During Wendy Spector's misguided tenure as Moderator, attendance at Weston Town Meetings has dropped 35% to just 3.1% of registered voters in 2012, partly because she has cut speakers off after just 3 to 5 minutes each. Town spending is too important to be left to such a small portion of the community. Less well known is that Tom Crane, while Chair of WTMAC, was even more …   more ›

Letter: Boshart Explains That He has 'Respect for All'

Weston Town Moderator candidate Harvey Boshart presents his thoughts on the race so far.

I would like to take a moment and elaborate on some of the issues that have been raised by the other candidate over the past few weeks relating to my candidacy as moderator in the May 2013 Town Election. A recent letter to the editor from one of my opponent’s supporters suggested that I am against transparency in the committee appointment process. This is false. I have challenged my opponent’s idea of holding public meetings to vet potential committee appointments because I do not believe it is consistent with the moderator’s role. One of the moderator’s primary obligations is to maintain neutrality in the exercise of his or her duties. This obligation distinguishes the moderator from any other elected official or participant in the …

Letter: Boshart Is the Right Pick for Weston's Moderator

Greg Czarnowski explains why he's voting for Harvey Boshart for Weston Town Moderator.

Dear Editor: I wanted to submit this letter in support of Harvey Boshart for Town Moderator.  There are a number of reasons why I believe that Harvey would make an excellent moderator. In no particular order: But don’t just take my word for it – please go meet Harvey and hear what he has to say at the League of Women Voters’ Candidates Night on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. in the Amy Potter Center at the Weston Middle School. I’m sure that you will come away from that meeting as impressed with Harvey as I am. Greg Czarnowski Brook Road, Weston
