Touch Galley is pleased to present Bruegel’s Dream, a solo exhibition of new paintingsby Nedret Andre. Please join us on Saturday February 23rd, for the exhibition and tomeet the artist. In the exhibition Nedret presents a series of oil paintings that explore the imaginarydream world of Bruegel. Nedret’s cross-cultural landscapes weave together manyinfluences such as; images from New England, Turkish textile patterns, impressionisticbrush strokes, and Bruegel. Her paintings are interpretations of our world today; amontage of colliding differences. She borrows merchant ships from the16th CenturyFlemish painter Bruegel which sail between shores in her paintings. For Nedret,Bruegel’s work symbolizes a place where many social classes, languages, and culturesco-exist. For example, in Bruegel’s Dream (painting above), the ship is headingtowards the Tower of Babel, but we do not see a detailed architectural tower. Instead ofarchitectural structures we are presented with patterns and textile that float betweenearth and sky. The Boston sky line is barely recognizable in the foreground with thisshifting landscape.
