Larson Miller to Star in OF MICE AND MEN at Boston Children's Theatre

Few stories accurately portray the powerful emotional impact of The Great Depression more than the classic OF MICE AND MEN.  The award-winning Boston Children’s Theatre is producing this iconic piece of American literature on stage at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts April 25 through May 4.  The production features the talents of 18 year-old Larson Miller of Weston in the lead role of ‘Lennie.’

No stranger to the stage, Larson was last seen in BCT’s acclaimed production of Reflections of a Rock Lobster.  At Stagedoor Manor, he has appeared in Jesus Christ Superstar as ‘Caiaphus,’ How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as ‘Mr. Whomper,’ and in Fame as ‘Schlomo Metzenbaum.’  Larson has worked with Weston Drama Workshop in such productions as Almost Maine and 42nd Street, and with Turtle Lane Playhouse in Les Miserables and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Larson is in his senior year at The Cambridge School of Weston.

Based on the novel by Nobel-winning author John Steinbeck, OF MICE AND MEN tells the story of two displaced migrant workers searching for work in California during the Great Depression.  With richly developed characters, OF MICE AND MEN is ultimately a story of the strong bonds of friendship and the incredible lengths men will go to preserve that friendship.

“Boston Children’s Theatre has never shied away from telling stories that challenge audiences and deliver a strong emotional punch,” explained BCT Executive Artistic Director Burgess Clark, and director of OF MICE AND MEN.  “This is a brave story about a man with learning disabilities living during insensitive times.  His story of being maligned by society because of his disability needs to be told, and it’s a main reason why I chose this play.  By using theater to build awareness and create conversation, we can help to foster change in our society.”  To further its commitment for creating an inclusive creative community, BCT was recently chosen by The Kennedy Center for the

Performing Arts to implement a playwriting program in the Boston Public Schools for students with and without disabilities.  BCT was one of only 9 theaters in the country to be chosen to run this program, and the only children’s theatre.
