TELL US: Where are the Best Sledding Spots in Newton?

School vacation is almost over, so spend some time sledding! Tell us your favorite spots in the comments section below.

After a rather dry winter last year, the snow is finally back in New England.

A fast-moving, weekend snowstorm left Newton with at least a half a foot of snow Saturday night -- and perfect sledding conditions.

With just two days left to school vacation week, some kids are chomping a the bit to get their sledding in before they head back to class on Wednesday, Jan. 2. One of our Facebook followers posted a question on our wall over the weekend asking where the best sledding spots are in Newton.

So, we took to our Facebook page to ask folks where their favorite spots are. Here's what we've heard so far:

  • Bobby Braceland Park in Upper Falls (two comments)
  • Cedar Hill in Waltham
  • Backside of Fessenden Road off of Albemarle Road

As displayed in the photo above (courtesy Historic Newton), Newton Centre Playground is, historically, also a popular spot to sled.

Where do you go to sled in the Newton area? Tell us in the comments section below.

Brae Burn off of Moffet Rd. It was terraced into three hills in one. Also the main slope they used to have a rope tow on, directly across from the club house. Watch out for the cheasecake brook at the bottom though.

Do you have to be a club member to sled at Brae Burn?

Charles River Country Club - when you're heading up Nahanton St toward Dedham St, the sledding hill is on your right.

We just used to sneak on and never had a problem. That was about 50 years ago though. (ouch!)
