Weekend Happenings: A Day on the River and More

From rowing to shopping to walking, this weekend offers something for everyone.

When/Where: Friday from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at NARA Park, 25 Ledgerock Way, Acton.

When/Where: Races occur Saturday from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m.-4:35 p.m. along the Charles River from the Boston University DeWolfe Boathouse in Cambridge to Artesani Playground in Brighton.

Why Go: The Head of the Charles is touted as the world's largest two-day rowing event. As an added bonus the Wayland-Weston Crew team will be competing in five events this year and will host a hospitality booth in the regatta's Reunion Village.

Pricing: Watching the event is free. Admission to Reunion Village is $3/person or $5 for two.

When/Where: Sunday at 3 p.m., at the Memorial Congregational Church, Sudbury.

Why Go: Betty Drum has been directing the Sudbury Bell Ringers choir for 50 years. This concert is in celebration of her service and is an opportunity to experience handbell ringing musical art.

Pricing: Free

NWW 29th Autumn Auction

When/Where: Saturday at 4 p.m. at First Parish Church, 349 Boston Post Rd, Weston.

Why Go: The years-old auction is the major fundraiser for the Newton, Wellesley, Weston Committee for Community Living, an organization devoted to serving "individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families." Tickets, specialty items, gift certificates and getaways will be up for auction (check out the list with this article).

Pricing: $100

Wayland Walk to Defeat ALS

When/Where: Saturday at 9 a.m. at Cochituate Field, 22 W Plain St, Wayland.

Why Go: The walk is organized by a Wayland family that has been personally touched by ALS. Dana Miller was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2008; since then her four children and husband have worked to raise awareness and funds for ALS research.

Pricing: It is free to walk, though registered participants are asked to achieve a fundraising goal.
