Weekend Happenings: Costumes, Apples and Crafts

We have a wide variety of events to keep you entertained this weekend.

When/Where: Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with the swap happening at 12:30 p.m. sharp. The festivities take place at the Arts at the Armory 191 Highland Ave., Somerville

Why Go: This is your opportunity to inexpensively dress your kids for Halloween, while reducing costume waste at the same time. Everything from princess dresses to ghoulish masks will be swapped and reused at the event.

Pricing: $10; Kids 13 and under, free

When/Where: Sunday at 2 p.m., at Heard Farm, Pelham Island Road and Heard Road, Wayland. 

Why Go: There's no cheaper place to do a little apple picking this year. Join Transition Wayland for a short walk into the orchard at Heard Farm. Then pick apples and listen as Bill Green, orchard caretaker, talks about the the Orchard Restoration Project.

When/Where: Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury.

Why Go: Christmas is less than three months away. It isn't too early to start shopping and picking up your gifts at a craft fair pretty much guarantees they will be one-of-a-kind. Metalwork, jewelry, art and more will be available at this annual event.

Threshing and Pressing: A Demonstration of 19th Century Farming Tools and Techniques

When/Where: Sunday from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Jonathan Hosmer House, 300 Main St, Acton.

Why Go: It's going to be a beautiful weekend, so getting outside and learning something new at the same time is a good option. Farmer Bryon Clemence of Burroughs Farm will demonstrate apple pressing and will thresh wheat from his own farm using a thresher from the 1850s.

Pricing: Free.

Calling All Superheroes!

When/Where: Sunday from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Linden Square Courtyard180 Linden St, Wellesley.

Why Go: You get to meet Batman. Do you need another reason? How about gift bags, face painting and Halloween crafts.

Pricing: $10 donation per family/$15 on the day of the event.
