Grab the Kids & Go: Vacation Week Fun

This week's activities include musical performances and family day at the New England Aquarium.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Where/When: Thursdays, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., 946 Highland Ave., Needham. 

Why Go: Enjoy your favorite bagel while your kids sing along to acclaimed musicians Ed Morgan and Jeannie Mack, who perform original and classic children's songs.

Pricing: This event is open to the public. There is a nominal charge of $3 per family to participate. In return, you will get a $3 coupon for Finagle a Bagel food that you can enjoy during the show.

Where/When: Thursday, February 24 10:00am, , Alphabet Lane, Weston

Why Go: The Tanglewood Marionettes is a nationally touring marionette theatre which is based in New England. They specialize in performing in schools and other educational environments and do an amazing job of bringing the stories and characters of the classics to life on a self-contained stage.

Pricing: Tickets: $7/members, $10/non-members, under 1 free

Where/When: Friday mornings at the New England Aquarium, Central Wharf, Boston

Why Go: Family Days are for families with young children, and the Aquarium offers storytime, art projects and live animal presentations in the Curious George Discovery Corner. No registration is required.

Pricing: Free with the cost of admission. Aquarium admission pricing is Adults $21.95; Children (3-11) $13.95; Senior (60+) $19.95. 

Where/When: Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27, The Stone Zoo, 149 Pond St., Stoneham

Why Go: The zoo offers free animal arts and crafts projects on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 to 1 p.m. 

Pricing: Free with the price of admission to the zoo. Admission cost is $11/adults, $7/children ages 2-12.

Where/When: deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. 51 Sandy Pond Rd. Lincoln. Special Vacation Schedule. Daily through Friday afternoon: Story hour 10:30 a.m.; Drop-in Art Acitivity 1-3 p.m. Special Events on Saturday: Story hour 10:30 a.m.; Bluebird Theatre 11:30 a.m./1 p.m.; Puppet-making workshop 1:45 – 3 p.m.

Why Go: Shadow puppets, marionettes and the beautiful setting of nature and art.

Pricing: All activities free with admission. Adults: $12; Youth 6-12: $8; Children 5 and under: Free.
