5 Things: Early Meetings, Arbor Day, Instruments and More

A few things you need to know on Friday, April 26, 2013 in Weston.

1. Early Day Meetings. The Field Study Committee will meet this morning at 7 a.m. and plans to discuss signage for dogs on town fields as well as a citizen's petition to reduce the Community Preservation Act contribution from 3 percent to 1 percent. The Weston Emergency Response Corps is also meeting -- this group at 12:30 p.m.

2. Arbor Day Ceremony. The Tree Advisory Group will hold an Arbor Day ceremony at Soldier's Field today at 10 a.m.

3. Instrument Drive. The Rivers School is continuing to accept musical instruments as part of its Musical Instrument Drive. Drop off instruments at the school that will go help children participate in musical programs who would not otherwise be able to.

4. Conversation Time for English Language Learners. The Weston Public Library welcomes individuals learning English to a time of small talk and conversation. No signup is necessary.

5. Burlington to Boston. Organizers of KeyBank's Vermont City Marathon are offering 150 free race entries to runners of the Boston Marathon who were unable to finish the 26.2 mile jaunt to from Hopkinton to Copley Square after two bombs were detonated at the finish line on Monday, April 15. “Our entire community comes together race weekend to create an atmosphere of celebration,” said KeyBank Vermont City Marathon race director Peter Delaney. “We’re opening our doors to anyone who was unable to finish Boston, so that they can realize the results of their training and continue the healing process.” The race will draw 8,000 runners, another 1,700 volunteers and approximately 30,000 spectators, making it New England's second largest marathon behind the world famous Boston Marathon.
