Five Things You Need to Know Today: Aug. 26, Special Hurricane Irene Edition

Battening down the hatches for Hurricane Irene yet?

  1. We'll have a better idea later today how Hurricane Irene is going to affect us, but it sounds like right now, according to the National Weather Service, we can expect tropical storm conditions—heavy rains and fierce winds.
  2. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency has a lot more information about weathering the storm, including tips for business owners and closings at Logan Airport and the MBTA.
  3. The Medical Reserve Corps has put together a list of what you need for a 72-hour survival kit. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but in case you need it, you can read it and download it at the right.
  4. Weston Patch will be up and running all weekend to be your central location for updates about the hurricane, closings and more. Keep checking back with us, or you can get even more up-to-the-minute coverage on Twitter and Facebook.
  5. If you have any closings to share, or questions, or want to spread some news to your friends and neighbors about hurricane-related things, leave us a comment or email editor Meghan Kelly at meghan.kelly@patch.com.
