How Will The Comcast Rate Increase Impact You?

The average Comcast customer’s cable bill will increase by 2.9 percent in February, but Comcast spokeswoman Doreen Vigue said most customers won’t actually see that increase reflected in their bill.

"These adjustments will not impact the vast majority of our customers because they currently receive services as part of a promotional offer,” Vigue said in a statement.

She said the overall increase is due to “the impact of higher programming costs and increased operating expenses.” 

“In just the last year alone we’ve added several channels and launched new interactive applications and multi-platform content that customers want and value,” Vigue said.

There are 1.8 million Comcast customers in the Greater Boston region, which includes Weston. According to a Boston.com story, the average Boston cable bill in December was $65; therefore, a 2.9 percent increase would bring the average bill to just under $67. 

Boston.com reported that this is the second Comcast cable increase in 10 months. In addition, DirecTV said it plans to raise rates nationwide by 4 percent, while Verizon FiOS is not currently planning a rate increase.
