Weekend Happenings: Free Fridays, Art Exhibits and Getaways

Just a few ideas for getting out and about this weekend.

 

When/Where: Friday from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Discovery Museums, 177 Main St, Acton.

Why Go: You already know that the Discovery Museums are great fun for kids and adults alike, so why not take advantage of the Highland Street Foundation's sponsorship program that provides free admission to five cultural centers each Friday through the summer?

When/Where: Ends Friday at the Tsongas Center and Gallery at Walden Pond, 915 Walden St, Concord.

Why Go: Your oh-so-talented neighbors and friends came together to produce the art for this month-long show on the theme Nature in New England. If you haven't seen it yet, your time is almost up.

Price: Free

When/Where: Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at 68 Quarry Road, Acton.

Why Go: This monthly event allows guests to experience the beauty of art in the quarry while enjoying a guided tour, live music and an artist's talk.

Price: A $10 donation is appreciated.

When/Where: Saturday at 15 Laurel Cir, Sudbury.

Why Go: Each month children in grades 2-8 explore a different type of cuisine, learning healthy eating habits,  baking, meal planning and international cooking as well as how to use different kitchen equipment.

When/Where: These events take place throughout the long weekend and unofficial last hurrah of summer. Head to the Cape, the New Hampshire coast or just into Boston.
