Weston Department of Public Works Facility Wins Award

Builder of new, two-building complex on Boston Post Road bypass/Route 20 wins merit award.

The town of Weston and the builder of the new Weston Department of Public Works facility have been recognized for the quality of work in constructing the new, two-building complex. General contractor CTA Construction Co. Inc. of Waltham won a merit award from the Associated Builders and Contractors Massachusetts Chapter for the challenges involved in constructing the structures.

Project owner the town of Weston and architect Weston & Sampson Engineering, Inc. were recognized along with CTA as part of the project team. The panel of independent judges in the 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards, sponsored by ABC Massachusetts, noted the challenges involved with a structural steel frame, concrete slabs on grade, exterior metal stud walls, clerestory windows and an aluminum curtain wall. The facility also includes a vehicle wash bay with a wastewater collection and recycling system, as well as a fuel island canopy for diesel and gasoline pumps.

“At CTA, we are proud of our record for delivering high-quality projects that meet the individualized needs of our clients. We share this award with the town of Weston and its leadership who were great partners in building this new facility,” said Patrick Tompkins, principal of CTA Construction Co. Inc.

CTA, which is also building the new science wing at Weston High School, won two other awards this year for projects built using both environmentally friendly and energy-efficient methods, including the East Elementary School in Hingham and UMass-Amherst Police Headquarters.

“CTA’s work represents the state-of-the-art in construction,” said Massachusetts ABC President Greg Beeman. “The company should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Work of this caliber is helping to raise the standards of excellence throughout the construction industry.”
