Weston Historical Society Hosts Tercentennial Exhibit at Weston Library (Photos)

The display will remain open until Jan. 29.

The Weston Public Library has taken a step back in time ... WAY back in time to the founding of the Town of Weston.

The Weston Historical Society, as part of the town's tercentennial celebration this year, is hosting an exhibit from Jan. 5-29, titled "The Farmers' Precinct: Three Centuries of Weston's History." The massive exhibit in the library's community room and gallery shows Weston's progression from the "Farming Precinct" of Watertown to the town it is today.

The exhibit features everything from photographs to furniture to farming implements and took quite a crew to gather and construct. The exhibit committee was chaired by Pam Fox and includes Mary Gregory, Mary Marder, Tania Deary, Rebekah Gardiner, and Robin Reisman.

Additionally, exhibit designer Will Twombly of Spokeshave Design planned the layout coordinated the work of graphic designer Mary Orr; advanced Imaging Inc. printed the large-scale theme and photo panels; Weston Historical Society board members painted 66 hollow core doors that were joined together to create the display; and Concord Museum and Peabody Essex Museum donated the nine exhibit cases, according to a press release.

"Themes illustrated include industry, commerce, education, estates, summer pleasures, Weston in wartime, and post-war growth," the press release reads. "Among the objects receiving the most attention is a World War II trunk with complete contents ranging from a gas mask and communication device to a map of Paris, French phrase book, and soldiers’ prayer."
