Weston Sees Some Closures and Cancellations Due to Manhunt

Weston isn't in the official "shelter in place" area, but several schools are taking precautions and canceling activities anyway.

Weston, along with the rest of the Boston area, woke up Friday morning to nothing short of surreal news:

Their hometown -- where their Red Sox and Bruins play -- was in a state of high tension as law enforcement searched for a 19-year-old man suspected of working with his older brother to carry out the Boston Marathon bombings.

Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, of Cambridge, was suspected of being on the run in Watertown, prompting the governor and police to shut down access to and from the city and issue "shelter in place" advisories for residents of Cambridge, Newton, Belmont, Watertown and later Boston and Brookline.

Tarsnaev's brother and alleged accomplice in the bombings, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed during a shootout in Watertown overnight Thursday.

But what did all this mean for Weston?

Well, with the MBTA and commuter rail system shut down, it meant that people wanting to use those forms of transportation into the city for work were out of luck.

But, according to a Weston Patch Facebook page user, at least one area of teh city seemed pretty normal.

Peter Hill said that at 7:30 a.m., at the peak of the confusion and manhunt, there was "Normal traffic on Wellesley Street."

Weston businesses appear to be largely open, but school functions are canceled.

Weston Public Schools have canceled all athletic events, saying in an announcement, "for your safety, given that the active pursuit of suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings is ongoing. Look for announcements later today as to when these events will be rescheduled."

Likewise, the Rivers School and Cambridge School of Weston have canceled events for Friday, April 19.

All athletic pracitices and games, as well as all other activities, are canceled at the Rivers School, according to Twitter.

The Cambridge School of Weston has canceled its spring production and gallery event scheduled for Friday night, according to Twitter.

What are you witnessing in Weston today? Is there a different feeling to things even if it does seem "pretty normal?"
