Stunning Vision: Weston Optical Illuminates Eyeglasses with Fashion-Forward LEDs

Weston Optical upgrades to fashion forward LEDs and sets an eco-friendly trend.

Helping people see is their business, so it made perfect sense for Weston Optical to install the perfect lighting. To outfit his new Wayland location, owner Russ Goldstein upgraded his lighting to LEDs.

The improvements included replacing the optical center’s halogens, which waste 90 percent of their energy as heat. Furthermore, halogens are hot and give off a harsh glare.

“The halogens were blinding. Customers would be looking at their eyeglasses and get a reflection off the bulbs. You couldn’t see. It was very unsettling,” said Goldstein. "Along came this fellow [from Savio Lighting] who told me about the Mass Save program and he explained how much it was costing me to operate each halogen per month compared to LEDs.”

Sales consultant, Ken Kansky, explained the benefits of using Energy Star LEDS, available through Savio Lighting: 10-year lifespan, three-year guarantee, fully dimmable, plus through the Mass Save partnership program only $5 per bulb—less than a halogen. Also, because of the energy savings, it would mean a return on Russ’s investment within two months.

Additionally, Russ used the latest LED technology to turn his tiger oak antique cabinets into stunning display cases.

“It was serendipitous that Ken came along just as I was looking for help on these cabinets and—to make a bad pun—they shed light on the viability of the [LED] lights. Going forward I would certainly use LEDs. I am very pleased.”
