THE RIVERS SCHOOL PRESENTS A CONTEMPORARY REINCARNATION OF GODSPELL

The Rivers School presents the 1970s Broadway hit Godspell on February 20 and 21, 2014 at
Regis College Fine Arts Center.

The show is composed of various musical parables from The Gospel According to Matthew.  Jesus Christ recruits a group of followers
and teaches them various lessons through song and dance.  Director David Tierney has taken the show in
a new direction, staging the production in the political turbulence of Washington
D.C.

Tierney commented, “Our production is set in Washington,
D.C. – and I could not think of a setting more emblematic of the social,
economic, and political turmoil that engages and influences all of us on a
daily basis and also bears a striking resemblance to conditions in which Jesus’
parables and lessons were first told.  I
have tried to establish Jesus as the ideal candidate – honest, sincere, and
altruistic - and the cast as idealistic and hopeful campaign workers and
political power-brokers.  In the end,
though, the story is the same and Jesus is betrayed and abandoned by all those
who surrounded him.”
