Why Live in Weston? The New Field School is Just a Part of That

Final steps need to be taken to make a new Field School a reality.

When a new family moves into Weston, one of the most common questions they get is, "Why Weston?" And the overwhelming response is, "Weston has a fantastic school system."

Having a school system that is a result of the support we here in Weston get in an educated populace, a hard-working School Committee, and dedicated staff.

Spearheaded by Dr. Ed Heller, chairman of the Weston School Committee, the has been underway for more than two years now. The current building is in dire need of renovations to bring it up to code for safety concerns. Every option was looked at, and cost was taken into consideration. Plans were compared and worked over, and a design for a new school was adopted.  Documents were filed, applications were submitted and the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) will grant our town $8.6 million to move forward with the chosen design for the new Field School.

But there are two more hurdles that must be jumped to proceed with construction of a new school. On Nov. 12, there will be a asking for the additional funding needed to complete the project, followed by a Special Town Meeting on Nov. 14.

A two-thirds majority vote is needed to approve the funding of the new Field School. I sincerely hope the town will continue to support the schools as it has done in the past.
