Weekend Happenings: Spooky Shopping, Sheep Shearing, Dancing

1. Annual Letter Writing Day
When/Where: Saturday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History, 235 Wellesley St, Weston.
Why Go: "Letters are the new email," according to the Spellman Museum. Guests on Saturday will be invited to write letters to their friends and family and the museum will pick up the tab for postage. Children and adults will also have the opportunity to make their own envelopes and stationery.
Price: $8 for adults; $5 for seniors; $3 for children ages 5 to 16.

When/Where: Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Claypit Hill School, 86 Claypit Hill Road, Wayland.
Why Go: There aren't that many opportunities for a parent/child dance. Why not take advantage of one close to home. This family event will feature entertainment, dancing and refreshments.
Price: $10 per family for Wayland Children and Parents Association members; $12 per family for non-members.

3. Spooky World Estate Sale
When/Where: Friday from noon-8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the home of former Spooky World owner David Bertolino, 37 Brewster Road, Sudbury.
Why Go: Whether you're a Halloween aficionado or just a collector of nostalgic theme park gear, this sale is for you. Last year's sale was a huge hit and this promises event more, as Bertolino sells off more of his pieces collected during year's of running the park in Berlin, Mass. Items for sale include vintage neck ties, a jukebox, novelties, lamps, Halloween costumes, comic books and more.
Price: It all depends on what you're willing to pay for a piece of Spooky World.

4. Wooly Ways in Olden Days
When/Where: Sunday from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Longfellow's Wayside Inn, 72 Wayside Inn Road, Sudbury.
Why Go: This old-fashioined sheep shearing event will include demonstrations of shearing as well as colonial clothing, early textiles, dying and carding, and weaving, among other things.
Price: Free

5. Annette Philip Quintet PerformsWhen/Where: Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Acton Jazz Cafe, 452 Great Rd, Acton.
Why Go: Great music in a cool atmosphere is the best reason to go. The Annette Philip Quintet is known for blending jazz, funk, Latin, Indian, and Middle Eastern influences into its unique music.
