. She is well known in Weston and many other communities for her connection to Neighbor Brigade, an organization she co-founded with her friend Jean Seiden in 2003 as both women were undergoing treatment for cancer.
Neighbor Brigade was designed to provide a network of individuals helping out with meals, errands and more as neighbors coped with illness or crisis. There are now more than 30 chapters of Neighbor Brigade throughout the state and one in New Hampshire.
"She mattered to so many people," said Wayland selectman Joe Nolan, who has known Washek since middle school. "Her faith, courage and grace were an example to us all, every life she touched is better for her being a part of it. She was a big part of our community and she will be missed."
