Memorial Day Services in Weston

Residents came out to commemorate Memorial Day in Weston on Monday.

The Memorial Day Ceremony started at 9:15 a.m. on Monday with the ringing of the Paul Revere Bell at First Parish Church in Weston by Weston Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.

At 10 a.m., an assembly of participants gathered inside the Horace Scudder Sears Auditorium in Weston Town Hall, where there was a presenting of the colors, greetings by Beverly Dillaway, Memorial Day Committee, invocation by The Reverend Dr. Thomas D. Winde, Senior Minister of the First Parish Church in Weston, a musical selection played by the Weston High School Band and Welcome Remarks by Robert Carlson, 1st Lieutenant, U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division, Vietman 1967-1968.

Youth speaker Will Jacobs recited "In Flanders Fields," a poem by John McCrae, and Daniel Benditson shared "Two Moments of Silence on Veterans Day."

The benediction was offered by The Reverend Dr. Thomas Wintle.

Outdoors, there was a wreath-laying ceremony, The Weston High School Marching Band played "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Taps" was played by Derek Shay and Sam Cekala.

A parade included the Weston Police Department Honor Guard, Weston Fire Department Honor Guard, Weston Girl Scouts, Weston Boy Scouts, Weston Athletic teams and children's carts, floats and decorated bicycles stopping at the Fiske Memorial, Old Farmer's Central Cemetery and Linwood Cemetery, where memorial wreaths were laid by Weston Veterans and representatives of Weston Scout troops.
