Snow Causes Heavy Traffic Delays

Thanks to a steady snowfall, the morning's commute was long and messy.

Thanks to a steady snowfall, Tuesday morning's commute in Weston was a long, slow-going one.

For most of Tuesday morning, Route 20 heading toward Route 128 was backed up for miles, at least past the police station on Boston Post Road Bypass. Both Route 128 and the Massachusetts Turnpike also saw their fair share of traffic and backups.

No major traffic incidents were reported, though police did respond to a two-car accident on Route 30, by the fire station at about 11:20 a.m.

The commuter rail was running on a 10-15 minute delay, according to MBTA alerts.

Weston schools were already dismissed, due to a teacher in-service day. All games and practices and other after school activities .

By mid-day, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory and a hazardous weather outlook. The advisory, in effect until 4 p.m., states sleet or freezing rain is scheduled to come after the snow stops. 

"Up to a tenth of an inch of ice accretion is possible before the precipitation changes to all rain by mid to late afternoon," said the NWS. 

The snow will turn to fog and rain into Tuesday night, with temperatures in the 30s. Wednesday, there is a chance of rain showers.
