There will be a sobriety checkpoint somewhere near Bedford this weekend, as Massachusetts State Police announced they will be attempting to take drunk drivers off the road this weekend in Middlesex County.

State Police do not announce what town the checkpoint will be held in, but Colonel Timothy P. Alben said in a press release that it will be held on Saturday night into Sunday morning in the area.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," the press release said.

The checkpoint is being run thanks to a grant provided by the Highway Division of Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

"It will be operated during varied hours," police said. "The selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."
