State Police Identify Man Arrested After I-90 Chase, Collision

The information below was provided by the Massachusetts State Police. Where arrests and charges are mentioned it does not indicate a conviction.

One man is under arrest and another man suffered minor injuries after a short chase on the Massachusetts Turnpike Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, Roberto Rivera, 33, of Worcester was arrested this afternoon following a brief chase on the Pike. Police said they received reports of an erratic driver traveling eastbound on the Pike near Weston. A check on the license plate number revealed the car, a 2004 Acura MDX sport utility vehicle, had been reported stolen from Holyoke earlier this month.

When an officer attempted to stop Rivera east of the Weston tollbooths, he refused to stop and "accelerated in an attempt to flee," a police press release reads.

According to Twitter reports, Rivera reached speeds of 100 mph during a brief pursuit that ended at about Exit 15. MSP said Rivera will face charges connected to the stolen vehicle and failure to stop.

Shortly after the pursuit began, police said, Rivera struck a 2012 Ford Transit van. The driver of the van, a 41-year-old man from Spencer, was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital with minor injuries.
