Weston Man Killed When Car Hits Tree on Ash Street

A passenger from Rhode Island was also injured in the accident.

A Weston man was killed and a Rhode Island man was injured in an accident Monday afternoon on Ash Street when a car hit a tree, police said.

The accident was reported around 12:25 p.m. by several 911 callers who told police a car had hit a tree and was fully engulfed in flames, said Weston Police Lt. John Lyons.

Several construction workers who were nearby at the time of the accident pulled the vehicle's lone passenger from the burning car, a Ferrari, but were not able to free the driver, Lyons said.

"Unfortunately, the operator was trapped in the car," Lyons said.

The driver, Gianulderico Camuzzi, a 68-year-old Weston resident, was declared dead at the scene by members of the state Medical Examiner's Office, Lyons said.

The passenger, a 56-year-old man from Johnston, R.I., was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He remained in the hospital for treatment as of today, Lyons said.

The state police crash analysis team is investigating the accident, and while Lyons said it could take a few weeks until the report is completed, speed may have played a roll in the accident.

"They are looking at speed as a possible factor," Lyons said.

Weston police and fire officials were at the accident scene in less than a minute, Lyons said, as one of two fire stations in town is nearby, at 390 South St. The flames were put out quickly, however Camuzzi did not survive, Lyons said.

"It was a tragic accident on a beautiful day," said Lyons.
