UPDATED: Weston Police Arrest Roxbury Man in Connection with Burglary

Break-in at a Boston Post Road residence interrupted by teenage resident; suspect also believed to attempt break-in at Stow Road residence in Waltham.

Weston police arrested who they believe to be a Roxbury man late Tuesday afternoon for breaking in to a Boston Post Road home and said he is also a suspect in a break-in on Stow Street in Waltham that occurred a few hours prior.

Police arrested 26-year-old Dominic Sylvestre of Roxbury and quickly tied him to a similar break-in in Waltham, in which the suspect tripped an alarm and fled before he was able to take anything.

As of 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, police were “99 percent sure” of the suspect’s identity, according to Lt. Danny Maguire. At issue was the fact that a different name appeared on the caller ID box of the cab company the suspect used to flee the Waltham house, Maguire said.

According to Maguire, at about 2:30 p.m. a teenage resident at 695 Boston Post Road heard the doorbell from his upstairs bedroom. When he went to investigate, he saw an individual at the door who soon walked away, and whom the resident believed to be a solicitor, said Maguire.

Shortly thereafter, the resident heard noises from his bedroom and went to his parents’ room, where he saw Sylvestre “standing at the foot of the (parents’) bed with his mom’s jewelry boxes opened,” said Maguire. When Sylvestre saw the resident, he jumped through the bedroom window through which he had entered the home.

According to Maguire, several officers were in the area doing details and saw Sylvestre running, making for a quick arrest and recovery of the stolen property.

What’s more, he said, police were able to “backtrack” Sylvestre’s movements to tie him to a break-in at a Stow Street residence in Waltham. Such backtracking included matching a sneaker print found at the Waltham scene as well as a witness and cab driver who tied Sylvestre to the cab he used to flee.

Sylvestre is charged with breaking and entering in the daytime to commit felony and numerous counts of larceny over $250. He being held on $10,000 bail at Waltham District Court and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning, said Maguire.
