Weston Police Nab Fall River Man Who Stole Car

Police arrested the driver, Antony Abbondandolo, 27, of 277 Country St., Fall River.

Weston Police apprehended a Fall River man who reportedly stole a car from Boston on Wednesday morning.

Weston Officer Phil Bird was on routine patrol by Route 30 near the I-95 interchange at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. He received an alert from the Lo-Jack car recovery system that is in his cruiser that a stolen vehicle was within his signal range.

Before receiving the vehicle information from Lo-Jack, the signal disappeared because the vehicle was no longer in his range. A general broadcast was relayed to Weston Police and surrounding communities about the stolen car, according to Weston Police.

Officer Dan Costa spotted the 1999 Honda Civic a short time later travelling west on Route 20 near the Weston Police Station. He notified the station and activated his blue lights to stop the vehicle.

The motorist pulled over near the station and ran from the vehicle. Costa chased after the man and apprehended him. Police also detained a passenger in the vehicle who is a juvenile from Dorchester.

Police arrested the driver, Antony Abbondandolo, 27, of 277 Country St., Fall River, and charged him with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of burglarious tools, malicious destruction of property, failing to stop for police, possession of stolen property and operating with a suspended license.

Abbondandolo will be arraigned at the Waltham District Court on Thursday morning. The juvenile was released to the custody of the Department of Children and Families, according to police.
