UPDATED: All Articles Pass in Special Town Meeting

The seven articles on the Special Town Meeting warrant all passed on Monday night.

All articles, including the article , passed Special Town Meeting on Monday evening.

Because the town voted at both the special election on Saturday and at Special Town Meeting to allocate said funds, preliminary work on the Field School can begin.

Many voters brought their children and the gym was used as an overflow room, led by Deputy Moderator Thomas Crane.

After presentations by the School Committee, Permanent Building Committee, Weston Climate Group and Finance Committee, a few people took to the floor to speak their opinions about the project, with opinion mostly evenly divided between those for and against it.

Nina Danforth said she thought right now wasn't the best time for the building.

"I do think that this design, as wonderful as it is, is still a work in progress and is not yet ready for the needs of this town," she said, adding that she had been hoping for a building that was more energy-efficient and "green."

Speaking for the "pro" side, Lil Hayes, who put several children through Field School and attended there herself as a student 35 years ago, said she would have loved for her children to go to the new school. 

“It’s exactly what our kids need," she said.

Writing on the schools' website, Superintendent Cheryl Maloney said she was pleased with the outcome of the vote.

"The School Committee and I are appreciative of the input of a myriad of townspeople who participated in focus groups, made comments at public meetings, and addressed the project on Town committees, such as the Town's Permanent Building Committee, the Board of Selectmen, the Historic Commission and the Library Trustees," she wrote.

Maloney said that the building's estimated opening date would be September 2014.

Article 7, a citizen's petition to push back at , was rescinded as the Board of Selectmen had agreed previously to table the discussion for at least another year.
