Spector: I am interested in improving the flow of communications in Weston and in getting more people involved in town governance. I think Town Meeting is an important part of the democratic process but that it should adapt to changes in technology and lifestyle. I also think that people need to be educated about how local government works and to feel that they can contribute to the well-being of the town by volunteering their time, expertise and energy to commitees. As Moderator, I feel I can work toward these goals both to improve Town Meeting and to open opportunities for volunteers.

Q. What is your background in local government or community involvement?

Spector: I have been involved in Weston as a volunteer, part-time employee and elected official since 1994 when we moved to town. People can see a full list of my contributions on my website, www.WendyforModerator.org. In each of these positions, I have focused on improving the communications of the organization I was involved in, as well as reaching out to educate others.

Q. Do you have other experiences that will help you as Moderator?

Spector: My professional background was in marketing and I have written grants, press releases and other printed materials on a free-lance basis. I was also on the board of the Boston Classical Orchestra for many years. As chair, I spearheaded the transition of the organization to a more professional structure, launching its website, introducing marketing and fund-raising initiatives and expanding its staff.

Q. If elected, what would you bring to the Moderator's role in town?

Spector: If elected, I would continue to improve the volume, quantity and methods of communications. I would also continue to educate people, both in our schools and through civic groups. Finally, I would continue to reach out to citizens and encourage them to be involved. I have a wide range of experience both in the schools and on the municipal side of the town so I feel competent to advise people on how best to channel their experience and time.

Q. Name one thing residents of Weston may not know about you.

I grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
