Council On Aging Board Will Have Vacancies in July

The Weston Board of Selectmen is seeking volunteers for the Council on Aging board.

The announcement below was submitted.

As of July 1, 2013, the Town of Weston will have two openings on the Board of the Council on Aging (COA). The COA Board, appointed by the Board of Selectmen, is comprised of 13 members who meet at 8:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month.

Members are also expected to participate on committees and special programs of the Board. Current Board interests include improvement in public awareness of COA programs and resources, inter- generational programming with the schools and other organizations in town, enhancement of transportation options for seniors, further development of support for caregivers, and an increase in opportunities for social interaction.

The COA serves all Weston residents with information and referrals concerning issues of health, housing, health insurance, in-home assistance and computer tutoring. The following services may be arranged through the Council on Aging: transportation to medical appointments (provided by FISH), low-cost taxi transportation, a medical loan closet and a food pantry. The COA offers health information and exercise programs each month. In addition, numerous trips, entertainment and intellectually stimulating programs are regularly scheduled. More than 200 volunteers supplement the work of the COA staff.

Because the COA interacts with all generations in town, residents of all ages with an interest in senior citizens are invited to apply. We encourage younger residents with experience in marketing, development and business to help us expand a vibrant component of our town. Interested parties should plan on attending a board meeting. Please send a letter of interest with background information to the Town of Weston, Board of Selectmen, P.O. Box 378, Weston, MA, 02493, or email selectmen@westonmass.org by May 1, 2013.
