Letter: Please Support Boshart for Weston Town Moderator

To my friends, neighbors and fellow Weston citizens:

I’m writing to enthusiastically support my friend Harvey Boshart as a candidate for moderator.  I have known Harvey personally and professionally for several years, and I think he has the right character, disposition, expertise and experience in town government to make an excellent moderator.  

Former moderator Bob Buchanan appointed Harvey to Weston’s Finance Committee in 2006. Harvey served on the committee for six years, and spent his final year as chairman. The Finance Committee has exposure to all aspects of town government and is responsible for carefully projecting the fiscal impact of town policies. This experience affords Harvey with a valuable perspective for the responsibilities of town moderator. Like Harvey, Bob Buchanan served as chairman of the Finance Committee before running for moderator.

In terms of expertise, Harvey’s detailed understanding of town finances was demonstrated at the November 2011 Town Meeting when he presented the Finance Committee’s analysis of the impact of a new Field School Building. This knowledge of the town’s financial workings and obligations will be an asset to the town as he appoints future Finance Committee members.  

In terms of character and disposition, I think he’d be an excellent choice, and would refer you to Harvey’s friends, neighbors and fellow Finance Committee volunteers. For those who don’t know me, I grew up in Weston, attended the public schools K-12 and moved back with my wife (who also grew up in Weston) to raise our two daughters. While not a unique perspective (there are many of us who have returned), I think that it provides me with a view that recognizes the history and best traditions of the town, while appreciating what younger families are looking for from their town government.

Please join me in supporting Harvey in the town election on Saturday, May 11.
