Chelmsford's Sandi Martinez will take on incumbent state Sen. Susan Fargo (D-Lincoln) in the November general election after beating challenger  Eric Dahlberg, a Chelmsford selectman, for the Republication nomination in  the Second Middlesex District.

Dahlberg conceded in front of his followers at about 10:30 p.m.  Tuesday night, after not being able to reach Martinez by phone.

Martinez won Weston's votes by about 40, earning 275 votes to Dahlberg's 232.

Dahlberg reportedly won 125 to 101 in Lincoln, Fargo's hometown.

Fargo said she was disappointed by low voter turnout Tuesday. She is prepared to campaign on her themes of grassroots organization and "talking about the issues that resonate in the district," she said, such as the economy, jobs and health care.

Fargo is Senate Chairman of the Public Health Committee and has spent time on public health matters, including vaccines and workplace smoking bans. Fargo is also chairman of the Senate Council on Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities.

"I will run the same way I have before and won with a lot of volunteers and talking on the issues that matter to the district," said Fargo. "I don't know that Sandi or Eric have done that."

Fargo is opening an office in Waltham Wednesday.
