Bad news commuters – the Merriam Street Bridge will be closed until Oct. 31 because of additional structural repairs needed.
The need for more repairs was “not discovered prior to the bridge deck dismantling,” according to the Town of Weston.
“The lead time on acquiring the specialized wooden stringers and other structural components has necessitated this more realistic opening date for the bridge. This date could change based on weather or other circumstances beyond our control.”
The bridge has been closed since July 30. Detours remain in effect. Traffic heading south is being detoured to Conant Road via North Avenue. Traffic heading north is being detoured to Conant Road via Boston Post Road; only local traffic will be allowed onto Merriam Street.
Details of the repair work and road detours can be found on the Town's website.
