Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.

It’s a rare election Thursday throughout the state, and there’s one local race on today's ballot.

Rep. Alice Hanlon Peisch is up against Jerome B. Carr, both Democrats, in the race for the 14th Norfolk District seat. The 14th Norfolk covers Weston, Wellesley and Precinct 10 in Natick.

Carr, 73, president of Wellesley-based Carr Research Laboratory, Inc., told Boston.com that he wants to repeal the current Wetland Protection Act and enact legislation that would make it allowable to “enhance” protected wetlands.

The Massachusetts Fifth Congressional seat is contended on the Republican side today. Frank John Addivinola Jr., Jeffrey M. Semon and Tom Tierny contend for the Republican nomination for the chance to face incumbent Edward J. Markey in the general election.

And don't forget about the third district state Senate seat being vacated by Susan Fargo. There are 7 candidates vying for the Republican and Democractic slots. This is important. I will be voting for Joe Mullin. Joe is a veteran of both Federal and municipal government (former Weston Selectman). He is at the point in his career where toeing the party line is less important than making state government work better for citizens and municipalities. He has consistently impressed me with his dedication, his integrity, and his principled values. Join me today in voting for Joe Mullin. Ed Coburn Weston resident and Selectman
