Redistricting Lines Should be Finalized in September 2011

A redistricting meeting at Framingham State University Saturday gave community members a chance to give their opinions on who will represent them in Congress and in the State House.

Congressman Edward Markey, who represents Weston, was one of the speakers Saturday morning at a redistricting hearing at 

Attendees were able to ask questions of the Special Joint Committee on Redistricting.

Saturday's meeting, which took place while close to a million people were in Boston celebrating the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup, was one of several meetings being held throughout the state. This was the only meeting in the MetroWest area. The next scheduled meeting is in Boston in July.

Committee leaders said new redistricting lines should be in effect by September 2011. 

What must be redrawn is the Congressional districts, as Massachusetts is going from 10 congressmen to nine. New lines for the Massachusetts House of Representatives, state Senate and governor's council districts may also need to be redrawn.
