Volunteers Needed for Town Committees

Deadlines are approaching for candidates to express their interest in filling a couple of open positions on town committees.

Weston residents interested in getting involved in town service have a couple of options for jumping into the world of civic service.

The Weston Board of Selectmen has extended the deadline for individuals to nominate themselves to serve on the newly formed Town Meeting Advisory Committee. Anyone interested in serving on the committee should send a letter of interest with background information by Friday, March 15  to selectmen@westonmass.org or by mail to the Board of Selectmen, P.O. Box 378, Weston, MA 02493.

According to an announcement from selectmen, the new committee will be tasked with:

making recommendations to the board [of selectmen] regarding Article 1 of the General By-laws of the Town of Weston relating to Town Meeting. Such recommendations may address but are not limited to the following:

1. Day of the week and time of day that Town Meeting is held
2. Notification requirements
3. Method of voting
4. Town Meeting procedures

In addition, the committee may make related recommendations relative to the conduct of the Town Caucus and the Town budget hearing, in order to improve the level of voter participation.

Another town board seeking volunteers is the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee.  The deadline to apply is Friday, March 8. Interested individuals should send a letter of interest with a resume and any other relevant information to the Town of Weston, Board of Selectmen, P.O. Box 378, Weston, MA 02493 or by email to selectmen@westonmass.org.
