Weston Conservation Commission Hosts Dam Removal Presentation Tonight

Expert in dam removal to discuss options for Hobbs Brook Dam.

How to best handle structural damage to the dam at Hobbs Brook is a question voters will face at Town Meeting in May, and tonight they'll have a chance to weigh some of their options at a special meeting.

Following extensive flooding in 2010, the dam sustained structural damage to the extent that some residents asked about having it remove at a Dec. 8 Conservation Commission meeting, according to a notice of the meeting on the town website.

The Commission has asked Beth Lambert, an expert in dam removal procedures in Massachusetts from the Division of Ecological Restoration, to speak about the dam removal process and address issues that may be raised by the removal of the Hobbs Brook Dam, according to the website.

Focus items at the meeting will include why many dam owners are exploring dam removal; the technical aspects of dam removal; and what dam removal sites look like during and after construction.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Weston Town Hall.
