Weston Council on Aging Board Seeks Volunteers

Openings available July 1.

The following information is from the Town of Weston: 

As of July 1, 2012, the Town of Weston will have two openings on the Board of the Council on Aging (COA). The COA Board is composed of 13 members appointed by the Board of Selectmen that meet at 8:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month.

Members are expected also to participate on committees and special programs of the Board. Current Board interests include improvement in public awareness of COA programs and resources, intergenerational programming with the schools and other organizations in town, enhancement of transportation options for seniors, further development of supports for caregivers, and increase in opportunities for social interaction.

The COA serves all Weston residents with information and referrals concerning issues of health, housing, health insurance, in-home assistance, legal matters and property and income taxes. The following services may be arranged through the Council on Aging: free transportation to medical appointments (provided by FISH), low-cost taxi transportation, financial assistance (provided by the Friendsof the Council on Aging), a medical loan closet and a food pantry.

The COA produces multiple health information and exercise programs each month. In addition, numerous trips, entertainment and intellectually stimulating programs are regularly scheduled. The COA is further supported by more than 200 volunteers.

Because the COA interacts with all generations in town, residents of all ages with an interest in senior citizens are invited to apply.
