Along with several other Constitutional Officers and elected officials, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas welcomed delegates to Lowell, Tsongas urged delegates to unite to replace Sen. Scott Brown in the next election by creating community conversations contrasting President Obama’s accomplishments with Sen. Scott Brown’s voting record.

Governor Deval Patrick explained how the Commonwealth has made important strides forward in employment, education, healthcare, and economically, during his term. It’s economy is coming back faster than other states because we have made investments. It leads the nation in energy and health care legislation, and rates high in creation of new jobs. However, Patrick cautioned "we need to be clear that it is time for Democrats to grow an even stronger backbone to stand up for what we believe.” He stressed that, “the American Dream is up for grabs” and urged Democrats to be proud of what has been accomplished, but not satisfied with it. “We need to keep returning to our values, and not only will we win, but we will deserve to win.”

“It was an exciting convention and I was pleased to see so many Democrats from around the State,” said Town Committee chair Jacqueline Haas .“It was great to meet the candidates for U.S. Senate and hear their ideas on job creation, education, health care, and the environment.”

After the adoption of the Action Agenda, delegates had the opportunity to attend several workshops and break-out sessions.

“I was pleased to join particularly strong attendance at the break-out session on Clean Technology and Green Jobs,” said John Carlton-Foss the Committee Secretary. “Many of us are working hard to foster an innovation economy that will create jobs, and build America’s economic strength into the future. There are a lot of innovative ideas and products emerging from local research universities and in small businesses. We need to maintain an environment in which these things can flourish and succeed.”
